Summary:

The Automation Systems Engineer will support the successful implementation and operation of Process Automation / OT Systems through interaction with internal team members, peer, and higher-level customers as well as external service providers. The individual is responsible for development of and adherence to system governance procedures. 

Reporting into the B&IT organization this candidate will be primarily responsible to own activities and deliverables for the Operational Technology and Automation systems across the site and working with a team of cross functional engineers that support on-going improvement and maintenance of these systems.

The candidate should have at least 2+ years of experience in pharma/biotech with exposure or expertise in Automation, Hardware, System infrastructure, exposure to Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality System disciplines. The candidate needs to understand Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Required Competencies:  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exposure computerized system projects.

  • Excellent communication skills including oral, written, and formal presentations.

  • Exposure to Process Automation Systems like PLC, DCS, equipment and data collection (i.e. OSI PI). 

  • Understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures. 

  • Ability to troubleshoot control systems from the field element up through operator interfaces and databases. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment. 

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment. 

  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment, manage multiple priorities, and be self-directed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, Science field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with PLC, SCADA systems, Automation hardware, DeltaV and Site Historian highly valued but not required

  • Minimum 2+ year’s relevant industry experience.

  • Prior Biologics/Cell Therapy experience is highly valued but not required.

  • Understanding of supply chain, manufacturing domains and supporting technology including manufacturing and supply chain MES and ERP systems (e.g. Oracle, SAP) is highly valued but not required.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and how they relate to existing and new business systems and practices, primarily GxP.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Will work on and contribute to the Libertyville, IL Facility Process Automation Systems, the data collection (OSI PI) and analytics deliverables.

  • Will work with a team of automation and cross functional engineers.

  • Partner with Mfg. Operations colleagues (Manufacturing, MS&T, Quality, Site Engineering), Enterprise teams (Global MS&T, Enterprise MES), Enterprise Business teams and local system Digital Capability Managers to deliver the requirements for the Libertyville therapy facility for the following:

  • Delivering the requirements for the Process Automation Systems (Infrastructure as well as the Unit operations within the Process automation system).

  • Integration needs with the Manufacturing Execution System (Syncade) & Data Historian (OSI PI)

  • Help execute the PAS priorities for the Libertyville CTF and work on the delivery of these priorities.

  • Develop presentations for the endorsement of OT / Automation projects.

  • Work with the technical teams to develop the requirements, code and test the deliverables and drive execution of system testing at the site level.

  • Network and work with other cell therapy members to proactively identify issues with cell therapy-based requirements and drive the resolutions.

  • Will support the troubleshooting, maintenance, validation, and administration of the following systems: SCADA systems, OSI PI, and DeltaV, Building Automation System. Systems may be added to scope as new installs are completed on-site.

  • Support other CTF sites in the BMS network as needed.

Working Conditions:

This is an office-based role and will spend most of the time seating at desk in an office environment.

Individual may be required to gown and enter clean rooms to assist with project work.
