Position Summary

We have an exciting internship opportunity at our Cambridge site within our dynamic Medicinal Chemistry group. As an intern, you will be at the forefront of developing innovative chemical transformations that are crucial to our drug discovery process. You will be tasked with the preparation of key intermediates and spearheading the investigation into the scope, mechanism, and optimization of chemical transformations. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for personal development, allowing you to gain experience in a pharmaceutical company while honing technical skills relevant to drug discovery. Key Responsibilities

  • Literature evaluation of proposed reaction routes 
  • Preparation of molecules of interest through multi-step organic synthesis 
  • New chemical transformation optimization 
  • Purification using HPLC and other automated methods 
  • Compound characterization using NMR and MS data 
  • Participate and contribute during scientific discussions, meetings, and presentations 
  • Apply method development to parallel library synthesis strategies for rapid implementation by medicinal chemistry project teams 
  • Writing up research reports that capture experimental data and progress  
  • Contribute to a research effort that may be amenable to publication or public presentation 


Qualifications & Experience

  • Three years of chemistry (organic chemistry I/II required) course work at the college level, a strong academic record (≥ 3.0 GPA) and at least three semesters of laboratory course work and research   
  • Self-motivated to learn and contribute, demonstrated examples of independent productivity and team-based interpersonal skills 
  • Enthusiastic and curious about science, laboratory work and drug discovery 
  • Prior chemistry laboratory experience in the academic setting and/or biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
