Position Summary

Under the supervision of scientists in Preclinical Science’s Cell and Protein Sciences team, the intern will gain a good understanding of soluble recombinant protein techniques via the design, production, and characterization of a novel purified protein.  They will learn techniques including but not limited to plasmid vector design, DNA purification, cell transfection, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, protein purification, protein characterization, and protein conjugation.  These efforts will support a cell therapy program by providing valuable tool reagents. The qualified intern will collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and specialties gaining insight into many fields within the pharmaceutical industry.


Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to perform laboratory techniques such as mammalian cell culture, plasmid vector design with Geneious software, and aseptic technique
  • Learn to purify and characterize proteins with protein chromatography via analytical HPLC and preparative FPLC instruments using affinity, size exclusion, and conventional chemistries. Further opportunities to analyze proteins may include SDS-PAGE and western blotting, multi-angled light scattering, flow cytometry, and bio-layer interferometry.  
  • Record experimental design and findings in an electronic lab notebook.
  • Present project progress and findings at weekly meetings


Qualifications & Experience

  • Candidates must be in enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Biology (e.g. Immunology, Cell Biology), Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Must have completed 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2025
  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills (lab course, academic lab, or industry lab)
  • Candidates should have strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
