Job Description:

This summer internship position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role in BioEngineering group in the Cancer Immunology and Cell Therapy (CICT) organization. The candidate will gain experience at the exciting interface of engineered T-cell biology, gene editing technology and cell therapy process development across various scales.

The successful candidate will support the design and execution of experiments, analysis of results, and communication of conclusions across teams. The intern will gain a deep understanding of the responsibilities of the BioEngineering group as a whole and how those responsibilities fit into the larger organization.

The candidate must be able to work independently as well as with guidance from a manager and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills. The candidate will gain functional knowledge of laboratory equipment, statistical software programs, gene editing and cell culture techniques and valuable exposure to the industry standards of clinical and developmental CAR-T manufacturing.  Upon completion of the internship, the candidate will have the opportunity to present their findings at an internal symposium.

Key Responsibilities

·       Design and execute experiments with supervision to assess impact and feasibility of scaling gene editing platforms

·       Complete timely and thorough documentation of electronic laboratory notebooks

·       Critically analyze and interpret data using statistical methods and leverage data to generate models and guide hypotheses

·       Organize, record and maintain large experimental data sets

·       Communicate study findings across multiple departments

·       Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with policies/procedures/regulations


Qualifications & Experience

·       Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioengineering or Biological Sciences

·       Understanding of cellular biology

·       Basic working knowledge of primary cell culture, aseptic techniques and bioanalytical methods

·       A passion and curiosity to learn with hands on participation

·       The ability to thrive in a collaborative team

·       Strong communication and organization skills

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $27.00/hour - $35.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
