Patient Access is defined as the payer’s positive assessment of the value of our medicine, at a price that is acceptable to both Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) and Dutch society, which yields minimal barriers to physician prescription and patient affordability of our drug. The current position involves creating the right environment for new interventions, developing tailor-made reimbursement strategies, support of the reimbursement/health technology assessment (HTA) process and support of price negotiations. For that it is necessary to work in a cross-functional manner within the access, but also local and worldwide BMS organisation. Within BMS we have a diverse product portfolio and pipeline. The current position will become part of a team consisting of 5 senior Pricing & Access Managers reporting to the Associate Director Pricing & Access Marjolein Pompen. This team is part of the larger Value, Access & Pricing department led by Edwin Ket.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support and coordinate preparation of reimbursement file/HTA dossiers, which could involve GVS, a lock or add-on procedure. Be responsible for dossier submissions and coordinate accurate response to questions from - but not limited to – Zorginstituut (HTA body) or other governmental agencies.
  • Support local country adaptations of Health Economic models and act as local contact for worldwide Health Economics and Outcomes Research colleagues and vendors.
  • Assess preliminary competitive pricing and access (P&A) environment and identify early gaps. Analyse current market dynamics for new interventions including stakeholders’ perspectives, competitors and patient access options and limitations.
  • Pricing also involves translation of a price strategy into optimal list and net prices. Defining negotiation strategies with payers and executing P&A interactions with internal and external stakeholders. Be part of the pricing negotiation team when relevant.
  • Seek input where necessary from clinical experts and leverage real world data to support our P&A activities.
  • Collaborate closely with cross functional teams to inform, develop and execute country brand plans, anticipate environmental changes and external stakeholder needs in order to optimize patient access through building partnerships.
  • Identify key payers and insight providers, understand their requirements, customize the value statement to payer segments and assess potential reactions to value.
  • Communicate value messages to key internal and external stakeholders. In close collaboration with other access colleagues collect and analyse outcomes research, health economics and budget impact data, and translate it into meaningful, relevant data to be used for reimbursement or pricing purposes.

  • This role should align to the Compliance culture to further strengthen the function’s ability to meet our goals and expand our efforts in driving BMS to meet the highest standards of ethics.


PV responsibilities:

  • Promptly report knowledge (initial or follow-up) of any adverse event associated with a BMS product within 24 hours or one business day of becoming aware of the event, in accordance with BMS Company procedures.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in Health Economics supported by a relevant Academic background in (Bio)medical or Pharmacy or Health Economics. Preferably supported by at least 1 year of experience in Access & Pricing and/or Health Economics discipline in either the Dutch pharmaceutical industry, academic institutes, governmental bodies or consultancy.
  • In case of no PhD degree at least 5 years of experience in P & A and/or Health Economics discipline in either the Dutch pharmaceutical industry, academic institutes, governmental bodies or consultancy. Supported by a relevant Academic background in (Bio)medical or Pharmacy or Health Economics.
  • Preferably established relationships with P&A external stakeholders.
  • Experience in effectively and persuasively articulating complex issues to key decision makers.
  • Able to demonstrate strong capabilities to work in a complex matrix structure with different functions and brands including an integrated Patient Access approach with other Access disciplines.
  • Team player with good communication skills and willing to work cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across diverse cultural, social, political boundaries.
  • Excellent Dutch and English language knowledge (spoken and written).

Knowledge Desired:

  • Understanding of the current healthcare system in the Netherlands including market access, pricing and health economics.
  • Understanding of all local market access and HTA requirements.
  • Mastery of verbal and written communication skills. PC knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
