A healthier world is attainable and achievable, but access remains unequal. At the BMS Foundation, our mission is to improve global health. We are developing grantee relationships in regions of the world that are underserved and heavily burdened through our signature programs in Brazil, India, ten countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and across the United States.
Evolution of our impact
Relationships are at the core of what we do, enabling us to improve global health in ways that we could not accomplish alone. We strive to improve access to healthcare for underserved populations in the geographies where we are focused. That’s why we support multifaceted endeavors with organizations serving these communities who are developing innovative, sustainable solutions to improve global health.

We have a steadfast commitment to be a leader in the wider pediatric community and improve global health for pediatric patients. Our work is aligned with innovative organizations, health systems and capacity-building initiatives focused on pediatric cancers, sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia.
The Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Award Program addresses the priority of improving participation in clinical trials to drive better health outcomes in all communities to save more lives. By training the next generation of clinical trialists in the science of community engagement, we believe we can include more patients in clinical trials that match the epidemiology of the disease studied. Research areas include cancer, cardiovascular disease and neuropsychiatry.
Facilitating patient, family and community education, empowerment and mobilization
Improving education and awareness helps at-risk patients have better health outcomes with early diagnosis and quality medical care.
Strengthening health systems
We are focused on creative solutions, new approaches and inventive concepts through health system strengthening initiatives. Building the capabilities of people and systems at every level expands access to care by ensuring healthcare systems are able to better diagnose diseases.

We work across the full continuum of care to support our grantees’ efforts to improve access and ultimately give patients longer, healthier lives.
Integrating and sustaining programs
We help our grantees to develop self-sustaining programs that create lasting positive change. We work with governments, civil society organizations, public institutions and private sector sponsors to eliminate barriers and ultimately drive global impact on health outcomes.
