and President
Europe

Béatrice Cazala was appointed to her current position in March 2009. She was previously President, Europe and Asia Pacific. In her new role, she continues her legacy of leadership and results across Europe and assumes responsibilities for Global Commercialization. Under Beatrice’s leadership, Global Commercialization will be increasingly focused on market access, customer interface and integration of assets from our alliances, acquisitions and partnerships.

The next several years will be critical to further enhance Bristol-Myers Squibb’s BioPharma strategy. “We live in an increasingly complex and interconnected world,” Béatrice says. “Markets worldwide are more and more regulated, and governments and payors will increasingly set pricing and reimbursement levels. Access, pricing and reimbursement are therefore priorities for us as we create value for our customers. We have a number of new medicines about to be introduced into this highly competitive environment, and we have a shorter and shorter window of time to be successful – to make a difference in the lives of patients around the world.”

Béatrice is passionate about innovation, one of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s areas of focus as it transforms into a next-generation BioPharma leader.

“The innovation process does not stop when a new compound is made available to patients,” she says. “The interactions between the molecule and the disease raise additional questions and increase our knowledge of the disease itself, leading to the development of new compounds or new indications that will ultimately help more patients.”

The global complexities of developing and commercializing small molecule and biologic products require close collaboration between our R&D, global marketing and regions. Béatrice will help lead the company’s next level of transformation to a global BioPharma leader.

Béatrice is fascinated with geopolitics. “It’s interesting to take an issue and find out what the Americans, the Germans, the French, the English and the Asians have to say about it,” she says. “It’s always a different point of view, different ideas. I also love the diversity of points of view within my multicultural team at work.”

Béatrice joined the company in 1982 as a product manager based in France. In 1987, she moved to the Worldwide Strategic Product Planning group in the U.S. as a director, and was later promoted to vice president. In 1991, she returned to France to hold senior commercial positions until 1994, when she was appointed vice president and general manager of UPSA France. In 2000, she became senior vice president and general manager, Pharma/UPSA France and, in 2002, she was appointed senior vice president, Northern Europe, based in the UK.

Prior to joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Béatrice spent five years at laboratories Cassenne (Aventis). She holds an MBA from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce et d’Administration des Entreprises (Rouen, France).
